Why isn't this ministry open to girls?
No offense to the girls, but this ministry is specifically designed for boys. It's not that the things we do could not
be done by girls, but simply stated, we're looking to help boys build better relationships with each other, that will
hopefully foster more solid and dependable friendships and accountability, while allowing the older boys to mentor some
of the younger ones.
What kinds of "adventures" are you going to do?
We don't want to give too much away, because that's part of the adventure! Weather permitting, the adventures we do each
week will be outside, because there are so many Biblical principles to be learned outdoors. So, we may be searching through
the woods, crossing a creek or pond, climbing trees, playing sports, having contests, even throwing chocolate pudding at each
other. If the weather is too bad, we will always have a back-up plan that will utilize the church's gymnasium or other
common area.
Will my son be learning anything?
We can't guarantee that your son will learn something, but we're certainly going to try! Each adventure we do will be
specifically designed to drive home a Biblical principle. We'll talk about character and integrity, the challenges of
being a teenager, Salvation, accountability, the struggles and challenges we face each day, and we'll even set up some
"role play" adventures around some famous (and maybe not so famous) Biblical stories. Our hope is that not only will
your son learn important Biblical principles, but also learn a lot about himself and his capabilities as someone growing
up to be a man of God!
Will my son get dirty?
Don't be surprised if you son comes home a little wet, a little muddy, or possibly even with chocolate pudding in his hair!
Don't worry--we'll warn you ahead of time what we're going to be doing on a particular week, so you can not only be
prepared for your son to return home, but you can also prepare him by making sure he wears clothes and shoes that are
appropriate for the night's adventure.
Will my son be safe?
While some of our adventures will be challenging, we promise to do everything we can to keep your son safe. And, while we
might challenge your son to try something he's never tried before, we'll never force him to do anything he's uncomfortable
doing. That being said, remember that part of our purpose is to help boys figure out who they are and what they are
capable of. And that often means getting out of one's comfort zone.
Will my son be supervised?
God is raising up godly men to help with this ministry. And so, you can be sure that we will have plenty of supervision
for all of our adventures and activities. That doesn't mean your son won't pick up a scratch or a bruise here and there, but
the men supervising the adventures will do everything in their power to ensure that the boys follow the rules of the
adventures and think and act safely.
Will my son be leaving the church property?
Sometimes our adventure will take place on the church property, but many times we will leave the church property in order
to go on our adventure, but your son will always be driven back and forth to the church by drivers who have been approved
for transporting people to and from events.
Does this cost anything?
There is no cost for participating in this program. We occasionally may have snacks or drinks (depending on the intensity
of the adventure), but those will either be provided by the church or donated by parents. If you are interested in
providing snacks or drinks, please
contact us for more information.
Why are the adventures so "secret"?
The adventures are designed to only be secret from the boys and not from parents. Sometimes
the success or failure of an adventure depends on the "surprise factor". If some of the boys already know what's coming,
the impact may not be as effective, some boys may have an advantage over others, and the adventure may not be fair to everyone.
We will provide a way for parents to know the details of upcoming events, but we ask the parents to keep the details hush-hush.
What if my son wants to bring a friend?
That would be awesome! In fact, we're going to encourage the boys to bring their friends. This would be a great place to
introduce a friend to Christ, and we plan on sharing the Gospel from time to time. Here's the challenge: if you're going
to invite someone, you need to do it far enough in advance so that the friend's parents or guardians have time to complete
the paperwork to participate. Click the "For Parents" link above to download the forms. Since one of the forms needs to be
notarized, you'll have to give someone some advanced notice.
Is this ministry affiliated with the book "Wild At Heart"?
While this ministry was partially inspired by the book "Wild at Heart" by John Eldridge, the ministry does not in any way
support the book's theological position and implications regarding the sovereignty of God. This book will not be the
foundation for this ministry and the ministry will not follow its theological implications.
